I. Cub Leader Training:
a. Cub Leader Specific Training: Cub leaders are encouraged to view the complete Fast Start (available online), and attend the half-day Cub Leader Training conducted by Peralta District to be held at the Davis Street office The date has been changed to Saturday, Oct. 6. William English reported that some Piedmonters were attending the cub leader training. We asked him to remind instructors to report those taking the program back to the Piedmont Council.
b. Cub Leader Roundtables: The Roundtable for Sept. 27 was publicized as proposed in the last meeting, however, only two cub leaders indicated they would attend and the meeting was cancelled. Piedmont will continue to develop a roundtable for Oct. 25.
William English confirmed that Peralta will hold its cub leader roundtable on Oct. 17, at the Joaquin Miller Recreation Center. Bonnie Bouhy will be leading that program. The Peralta Boy Scout RT will be held at the same time and location. Alamedas cub roundtable will be Nov. 15, at the Alameda Council Office. The next roundtable would be in January, 2008.
II. Boy Scout Training
a. Scoutmaster Training, Part I and New Leader Essentials, were conducted on Sunday, Sept. 23. Seven scouters attended (all from Piedmont). May Thomas, Troop 4, reported that those who took Part I of the training were enthused by it and looking forward to the outdoor session.
b. Introduction to Outdoor Skills for Adult Leaders is on for Oct. 27-28 at Hawk Ridge of Chabot Regional Park. At this writing, there will be 8-10 scouters attending. Two are from outside the council (found it on the internet) and one trainer is from Peralta.
We have room for more students. They should sign up with Linda Tu in the Council office by Wed., Oct. 17, in order to finalize our plans.
May Thomas gave us the names of other scouters in Troop 4 who would be candidates for Scoutmaster training. I will remind them that they can take the outdoor portion first, though they are not Trained until they have completed Part I.
There will be a patrol meeting on Thursday, Oct. 18, in the basement of the Piedmont Community Church, right next to the council office, a change in location from the flyer.
We are still seeking leaders for 3 segments. We will ask if some Eagle Scouts would be available to conduct some sessions, such as First Aid or Campsite Selection.
c. Patrol Leader Council (PLC) Teambuilding Workshop rescheduled: The patrol leader teambuilding workshop to be conducted by Mal Pacheco has been re-scheduled to Sunday, November 4, to begin at 3:00 p.m. All troops are invited. Each troop is invited to bring the youth leadership from last year and the newly elected leadership from this year to assess what worked well and what didnt and to develop plans. Details are available from Mal Pacheco and the scoutmaster of each troop.
d. Merit Badge Training: Mark Dukas conducted the hour-long merit badge training on Sept. 22, in the Piedmont Council Office. Three merit badge counselors attended the training. Mark is prepared to teach it again, based on demand. We anticipate, however, that it will be offered no sooner than Spring, 2008.
