Words from the Chief

Dear Members of Hungteetsepoppi,
As the New Year approaches, I would like to encourage the youth members of Hungteetsepoppi to get active in our Lodge by coming to our next Lodge Meeting (January 24th) and attend PoppiFest/Spring Ordeal in March (12th-14th).
Also, recruit more Ordeal Members and Brotherhood Members to attend by talking to our brothers, reminding them how much fun it is to be a part of the Order of the Arrow, especially when youre having fun at PoppiFest in March (Wink, Wink, Nudge, Nudge).
Lets stay active, have fun and enjoy serving our community and our fellow brothers in the Lodge. I am looking forward to seeing you this year.
Yours in Brotherhood
Michael C.

OA High Adventure Update
The Order of the Arrow offers high adventure programs featuring opportunities for cheerful service. This tradition continues in the summer of 2010 with the OA Trail Crew (OATC) at Philmont and OA Wilderness Voyage (OAWV) and OA Canadian Odyssey (OACO) both at Northern Tier. There are still slots available for Arrowmen to participate in these once in a lifetime programs!
As always the OA's high adventure programs continue to be the most affordable way to experience Northern Tier or Philmont. OA Trail Crew and Canadian Odyssey are only $200 and OA Wilderness Voyage is only $150 for a two week experience. For every three boys that want to go to Philmont, only one will get in due to the overwhelming popularity of Philmont. The OA's programs offer Arrowmen a "shortcut" to Philmont.
OA Ocean Adventure will be taking a year off for 2010 as the Order of the Arrow and the Florida Sea Base work together to create a more dynamic program for future years. This new program will give Arrowmen an opportunity to positively impact the Florida Keys and surrounding areas to a greater extent than ever before. Stay tuned to the national OA High Adventure web site for updates throughout the year.

Section W3S Conclave Recap
September 25-27, 2009
Camp Royaneh, Cazadero
A small but determined group attended the first W3S Conclave in September. This was the first conclave after forming the new section, and the first that have been held in September for decades.

The Conclave began Friday evening with an opening show. OA members were stragling in for hours due to the long travel distance from the bay area to Camp Royaneh. The next morning was spent training members on a variety of topics relevant to the OA, scouting, and outdoor topics. Lunch was held, and the members were off in the afternoon on a variety of competitions. Hungteetsepoppi gave out Gatorade to the sports participants, and the lodge adults held down the midway booth, while relaxing and telling stories. Once again, Associate Adviser Faison and Mrs. Aracic manned the Sand Painting station, guiding impressionable youth in the fine art of working with sand. Congratulations to Forrest for placing in the sand painting competition

Saturday night included the new section officer elections, a patch auction, the closing show, and an ice cream social. Money was squandered, waistlines were expanded, and lots of money was raised to support the section program.

On Sunday morning, a closing show was held where the conclave results were revealed, and the new Section officers were installed. Congratulations to Alan, Bradley and Indy on their election to office!

2009 Lodge Fall Banquet
November 8th, 2009 - Gibson Center
On Sunday, November 8th, the Lodge came together for the annual Lodge Dinner.
Once again this year OA dinner was a success! There was a wonderful bar-b-que dinner and an amazing speaker.
Everybody enjoyed hearing Gray Catheral talk about the Piedmont Post; about when it was established and much much more. I have known Gray for a long time now and he is an amazing person. He is so dedicated to the Piedmont Post and the city of Piedmont. He started a paper just for the town of Piedmont. At the time The Piedmonter was the only town newspaper, it was barely a town newspaper because it was and still is printed in Oakland. It usually has a couple of pages with Piedmont activities but otherwise it is all news outside of Piedmont.
When Gray noticed that there wasnt a paper just for the town of Piedmont he instantly wanted to make one. So thats what he did, he got together with a group of people and started the Piedmont Post. Since then its been a success and people have supported and loved it for years.
The rest of the night was tons of fun with conversations and a great dessert of Apple pie.
At the dinner, we also had two guests from the Section. Indy Nelson, Section W3A Secretary, and Alan Camarillo, Section W3S Chief attended.
Thank you everybody for being there and hope you all had fun!
Kellan
